What will you leave behind when you leave this earth? The answer is at first blush straightforward; whatever possessions you own at that time. But a significant challenge presented to each and every one of us is; what legacy will you create to influence the next generations. What life lessons or singular message can you pass along to make the future possibilities better? This goes beyond the ephemeral, fleeting tangible things and speaks to a more lasting impact.
The Diakoneint Foundation was begun for such a purpose. It is meant to be a specific message directed toward our nieces and nephews and, in fact, to anyone who will listen and observe.
Key messages:
This is why the foundation was created. It is the demonstrative tool that is the spiritual legacy we wished to create. It is also the basis by which the foundation name was formulated.
It is not a coincidence if the word, diakoneint, sounds vaguely familiar and reminds you of the word, diaconate.
Diakonein is a Greek verb referring to service. Its most profound use is in the New Testament describing the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. In this way the action of service is elevated from merely waiting on tables to the actionable love of God. Diakonein thus exemplifies “Love in Action”.
While the word, diakonein, is in full alignment with our intended purpose, we were looking for a foundation name that included the initials of all our nieces and nephews. We needed a word with the letter “T”. The word “diakoneint” appears in published Spanish text.
The logo depicts a clover wherein each petal is heart-shaped and bears the first name initial for each of our two nieces and two nephews. The colors of the clover petals indicate the birthstone of the months in which they were born.
The Diakoneint Foundation is a 501(c)(3) entity located in Hancock, ME and was incorporated in the State of Maine in December 2014. It is a small, but growing, private foundation that provides grants, across four programmatic areas, to other 501(c)(3) organizations and public schools.
The Foundation makes grants locally, nationally and globally. At this time, all grants provided by the Diakoneint Foundation are donor directed and grant applications are not accepted.
